Danao City Road Crash Kills 5

DANAO CITY, Cebu – Five persons were killed while eight others were injured when an Isuzu pick-up collided with a tricycle in barangay Dungguan, this city, early Saturday morning.

The impact of the collision was so hard that the tricycle was totally wrecked, instantly killing its driver Renier Solima and one of the passengers, Bernardino Encabo, said PO3 Reynante Manulat of the Danao City Traffic Division.

Manulat said the tricycle was filled to capacity while on its way to the neighboring town of Carmen while the Isuzu pick-up, driven by Alexis Tiu was traveling the other lane on its way to Cebu City early morning Saturday.

β€œOne of our witnesses claimed Tiu was traveling at a very high speed when an explosion suddenly took place,” said Manulat.

Tiu told investigators that he lost control of his pick-up when one of its tires suddenly exploded while he was trudging the national road in barangay Dungguan. He tried to maneuver the vehicle to safety but the pick-up instead crossed the other lane and crashed head on to the tricycle.

Solima and Encabo died on the spot while three others - William Ceniza, Joselito Capote, and a still unidentified male – died inside the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center due to the severity of their head and body injuries, said PO3 Manulat.

Six other tricycle passengers were thrown off the vehicle and sustained head and body injuries. Two of the injured passengers were still in critical condition at a private hospital in Cebu City as of press time yesterday.

Pick-up driver Tiu and his companion were also brought to a private hospital in Cebu City for severe injuries in the head and body. #
